The Shawl

I am honoured to be a finalist in ModPortrait 2024. This competition brings together some of the best portrait artists in the world, and having my work exhibited at this time is an incredible milestone.

ModPortrait, one of Europe’s most prestigious portrait competitions, attracts submissions from top artists worldwide, showcasing technical mastery and unique artistic voices. Further, by having a drawing category, it recognises the importance of drawing to the art world.

The portrait is done in graphite and carbon. With the title of The Shawl, it was inspired by a meeting with a friend of my wife several years ago where the woman concerned was wearing head covering due to the cold weather. The portrait is not of that person, as I took no photos, but rather is my interpretation of that moment.
